What is the difference between juice and cider? is it safe to drink cider that has not been pasteurized?

I am talking non-alcoholic cider. I bought some on my recent vacation at a road side stand....very yummy. I bought Peach. Does all cider have to contain at least some apple?

  1. u should read the ingredients it will surely tell u, and no it doens't but it is the most popular, and i think the difference is that juice, is just the juice of the w/e and water and other things, but cider has carbonated water, sorta like soda but healthier
  2. um I think it's cause cider is carbonated I dunno =?
  3. Yes. It's ok for an adult. But not for children under 1 year old. No unpasteurized drinks like that for them. And maybe not for adults with decreased immune functions. But cider has more of the apple in it and it is produced diffrently. I buy cider in CA every year and it is unpasteurized as well. Typically cider refers to "apple cider" but it doesn't HAVE TO have apple. I also buy the apple cider that is a blend of other fruit.
  4. i only know about apple cider. cider seems more sour than juice. if it's not pasteurized u'd have to leave it in the fridge and try to drink it within 3-4 days
  5. put it in the garage and drink it in like 6 months
  6. Cider is fresh pressed and not cooked. Juice is usually a cooked product. Pasturizing heats the cider to a high temp to kill bacteria, so of course it is safer to drink, but it does change the flavor. As to the second part of the question no, you can just as easily have a pear, or peach cider with no apple.
