What is the best vacation planning site?

My husband and I have not been on a vacation for 6 years for financial reasons. This year, I am committing to tucking money away. We both like 4 star accomodations - what is the best travel website to get the most bang for our buck? There are so many to pick from and we have never done this before: Apple Vacations, hotels.com, expedia.com, hotwire.com, etc. etc. And do these sites really work? Or is it best to use a travel agent or go on the hotel or airline site directly? Please help - this is all so confusing AND expensive!

5. I would seriously recommend you guys going through a travel agent. You can get personal with them, and they keep you updated if your flight's have changed, or anything else about your trip. If you're saving up for it, and it's been 6 years....go with a travel agent! I promise...it's so much better
6. Priceline. If you have some flexibility (read the fine print) and don't mind flying anytime of day or night, and don't mind which hotel in your class, you can name your price and get great deals..... have lots of fun blessings also, check deals on amtrak for travel weekly specials also some fine print but travel by train can be fun washington dc has lots of free things to do and see AAA had great campbooks, guidebooks check out their offices and website they are terrific
7. I use wotif or lastminute always helpfull.I live in Australia married for 26 years to a Pinoy and we always use it.
8. You should try Goanywhere.org They have some of the lowest rates around... Hope this helped!
9. i just returned from cancun with my wife. we booked through www.travelcuse.com and got a great deal. the site is an aggregator so it takes all the deals from apple, hotels.com, etc. and presents you with the best deals. highly recommended!
